Lauriane Daphne Carl (they/she) is a French-German artist who lives and works in Berlin. In their interdisciplinarily interwoven practice, they explore the dialectic between desire and destruction against the backdrop of an unequal power imbalance.
Aggression, resilience and resistance of women, female-read and queer subjects within capitalism, in all their imposed contradictions are explored through contemporary pop culture as well as biblical or ancient mythology as cultural data carriers, whilst blurring the boundaries of the media used. Next to studying Fine Arts at Universität der Künste Berlin, Carl engages in collaborative projects with various collectives. She also organizes exhibition, performance and club nights, in an attempt to bridge the gap between inaccessible white cube art spaces and queer club culture.
